Updates to Google Classroom

Google Classroom, in conjunction with the entire Google suite, is such a powerful tool. Whether in one-to-one settings or in a blended learning environment, the classroom platform streamlines, organizes, and coordinates both the teachers’ and students’ materials, assignments, and assessments.

Google Classroom is frequently adding new features to the Classroom platform. In fact, there are updates that occur each month that add new features and/or functionality to the program.

Let’s take a look at what’s new and exciting!

New Classwork page

You can now organize your curriculum assignments into units or modules, and reorder work to match your class sequence. Teachers can post assignments and questions on the page, as well as group them into modules with topics.

• Materials on the Classwork page: Teachers can add materials to the Classwork page. This will support sharing and organizing resources like readings or reference materials.
• Classwork page for existing classes: Teachers can add the Classwork page to existing classes or classes they’ve previously removed.

New grading tool

Save time grading and giving feedback with the new grading tool. The grading tool has a built-in comment bank where you can save commonly used feedback. You can also easily toggle between student submissions when grading. Teachers can also switch between grades, student submissions, and comments while grading.

Edit the room, subject, and section during course creation

Teachers can edit the room, subject, and section when creating or editing a course, or use the Settings page.

New People page

You can view and manage co-teachers, students, and guardians all on the People page. Teachers can view class member information on the People page, and can also invite and remove students, co-teachers, and guardians on the page.

New Settings page

On the Settings page, you have one convenient location to update class descriptions, display or reset class codes, manage and control how students post on the Stream page, and more.

• Easier posting on the Stream page: Teachers and students have an easier way to post in the Stream.

Copy a class

When you set up and reuse a class, you can now copy all topics and assignments from one class to another. All work is copied as drafts, so you can make modifications before posting. Teachers can copy classwork and topics from an existing class to new class.

Control notifications by class

Teachers and students can turn notifications off for any class.

Change grades

Teachers can change grade point values when creating or editing assignments or questions.

See status updates

Teachers and students can see updated labels (Assigned, Turned In, and Graded) for the status of a student’s work.
