It’s summertime and life is feeling easy! You’ve done what feels like the impossible and made it through another school year. Now that you’ve gone through some highs and lows, it’s time for a little relaxation! Once you’ve decompressed, it may be time to start thinking about the upcoming school year. One option is turning your lessons and units into microlearning experiences. To do that, we’ll provide 4 summer microlearning essentials!
Get started with these microlearning essentials
As teachers, it’s important to keep adapting by learning new technology, skills, and teaching methods. It’s important to tailor your pre-existing curriculum and adapt it to the way today’s students learn today. As the average attention span of today’s students has decreased, it’s best to provide small, focused, and chunked information that’s easy to understand and absorb.
Here are 4 microlearning essentials:
- Create bite-sized content which is easy to swallow. This reinforces information and makes learning manageable for students. It also avoids information overload.
- For each micro-lesson, focus on one specific skill or concept that aligns with an activity and specific learning objectives.
- Utilize an array of different formats to present your lessons such as using a combination of videos, audio clips, quizzes, polls, interactive images, etc.
- Finally, make these micro-lessons easily accessible through creating an on-demand learning theme on online platforms or mobile devices.
Resources to help create micro-lessons
There are many benefits to incorporating this style of learning into your classroom. One major benefit is that students will be more engaged and attentive with shorter amounts of content. You will also see improved retention as the content will be more manageable. Lastly, you can utilize these micro-lessons repeatedly as a form of review.
Even though it’s summer and work may be the last thing on your mind, technology can do the work for you! Combine the power of micro-learning essentials and educational technology to take the stress out of teaching.
Here are a few amazing resources:
- Lumio by SMART allows you to upload pre-created content and has tools to turn stale lessons into active and collaborative experiences. Lumio includes engaging games, resources, and so much more.
- Canva is another tool that assists in creating presentations, worksheets, and newsletters. You can integrate your designs with many of your LMS systems directly from Canva.
- A teacher’s new best friend can be one of the many AI tools available for educators. Online learning platforms such as Brisk Teaching, MagicSchool, or even Gemini can easily transform pre-existing content into a set of microlearning lessons.
These handy resources will save you time and energy that can be better spent enjoying your summer vacation.
