As special education teachers, we are equally as responsible as our general education colleagues for addressing college and career readiness in our students. Lessons learned in grades K-12 will pave the way for our students, and we should strive to enable our students to show good decision-making skills to transition smoothly to life after graduation. In this session, I will share strategies for helping students with special needs, and their parents, to identify a path that will lead to greater success in high school and beyond!

Education has always focused on the core subject areas, but there is an important need for more of a focus on social-emotional learning in the classroom. Students’ ability to learn well depends not just on instruction, but also on factors such as the school environment, interaction with peers, and relationships with teachers. This session will explore SEL concepts as well as some easy check-ins and classroom activities.
