Kahoot! is Going Global!

Kahoot0This just in—Kahoot! has officially raised $10 million dollars in their efforts to help improve learning for all students (and yes, we mean ALL students. Kahoot! is now going global)!

Why is it so great?

Kahoot! is a free classroom assessment platform that allows teachers to gamify quizzes, discussions, questions, and polls, turning them into group or team activities. The platform launched in 2013 and has already gained 33 million monthly, active, unique users. The new funding will allow Kahoot! to add new game formats and build new and better applications that different brands and publishers can use.

Kahoot! is loved by learners and trusted by teachers. Not only can Kahoot! be used in a small classroom setting, it also has been made available for teachers to connect globally to classrooms to allow students to communicate all over the world.

So what is it?

Kahoot! really is as easy as 1,2,3. Teachers go on to the website (getkahoot.com) or access it using a mobile device to create a fun learning game in just minutes. Teachers can pick from creating a quiz, discussion, or survey/poll and add in multiple choice questions. Adding videos, images, and diagrams really amp up the student engagement. Once the “Kahoot!” is created in a simple step-by-step process, players can answer them individually or in teams. The game is displayed on a shared screen (such as an interactive white board) and although students play along on their own devices, players are encouraged to look up at the screen to see the questions before answering so it promotes a campfire-like setting where everyone huddles around together. Since a “Kahoot!” can be shared globally, players can be in the same room playing the same questionnaire together—or on the complete opposite side of the globe!

  1. Kahoots been great for my classroom. However, there are so many kids using a Kahoot hack on my Kahoot quizzes and people are just telling their friends to use it. So many people are using hacks on my Kahoots now and I have no idea on what to do.

  2. I have just learned about this Kahoot! Hack. I think the “Auto-Answer” and user flood can be tricky in the classroom. Reminding our students about fair play and opening up communication about this topic may help to remedy this hack. Students love using Kahoot! in the classroom, so voicing your concerns to your students and putting boundaries on this fun game might make them think differently. Let us know what happens!
