Today, we welcome the first official day of Fall 2015! I’m sure many of our teachers are happy that they can keep their classroom windows open to welcome a cool, autumn breeze. In addition, you may be looking for engaging lessons to help teach about the change of seasons. To help, we’ve put together a list of some great ways to introduce students to fall, and even provide some scientific awareness about why we experience the season change across the globe.
Teq’s Educator Resource Center (ERC) is comprised of a variety of SMART Notebook lessons in all subject areas across all grade levels. Located within our ERC Science category is a collection of lessons on the seasons. These lessons are comprised of informational, descriptive pages and are also great for whole group or center-based instruction. They’re designed to encourage students to get out of their seat and take part in the lesson with interactive content. For a variety of great lessons on season change for your classroom. see the links below!
1.) Axial Tilt – This lesson provides information about the Earth’s axis and describes how it affects the weather in each of the hemispheres, causing our season changes. It is also available on the ERC as a Flipchart for ActivInspire users.
2.) A View of the Seasons – This lesson includes some great center-based activities as well as whole-group instructional content for the elementary classroom. Built in crossword puzzles and matching games help to engage students and inspire fun while learning about the season changes.
3.) Reason for the Seasons – This lesson introduces students to the Earth’s rotation and revolution, describing the changes caused by the motion of our planet. Interactive tasks and assessment questions are built in to assess student understanding.
4.) The Four Seasons – This elementary level lesson introduces students to the four seasons with interactive videos, a KWL chart, and interactive pages for students to practice their seasonal vocabulary.
Each of the lessons on our ERC has been created by our Professional Development staff or teachers that have been through Teq’s Digital Teacher Certification. Each lesson has a teacher guide, providing directions on how teacher and students are encouraged to interact with content during instruction. Once you download the lessons from the ERC, they are yours to edit and save for use in your interactive classroom. We hope you enjoy this collection of lessons and the entire fall season!
