Cool Peripherals for Your Science Classroom

Thanks to our friend, Peter White, from Bodelin Technologies, we were able to demonstrate some more great tools for use in the science classroom through our Online PD platform. We ran a fun session demonstrating some of these tools with intriguing curriculum connections. You can tune into our course here with a subscription to Teq Online PD. Our session focused on two types of microscopes and a great, portable backlight that could be used with each of these devices.
Continuing with the theme from our previous sessions, we modeled student activities using these new tools in conjunction with some that may already exist in your classroom. During this episode, we tried to discover who may have written a ransom note for the high school mascot costume. Was it the principal, the head coach, or the head cheerleader?! To do this, we used the Proscope Mobile to compare ink samples from the ransom note with each suspect’s pen. The ability for the device to broadcast to over 200 iOS devices, makes it a great mobile tool for whole class or small group instruction.
We also attempted to determine if the easy-to-use Proscope EDU digital microscope could tell a counterfeit bill from a real one. Unfortunately (or fortunately?), we only have real money on hand, so we made some observations of standard security features on the currency we use every day. Learn how to use these great mobile tools in your classroom, and share some other curriculum connections on our course page. You can also tune in to some of our previous Cool Peripherals courses where we demonstrated some alternative tools.
Interested in other great classroom technology? Remember, you can always suggest a course topic! We would love to hear from you.
